Late in the summer Moritz and I were showing some
friends through Glacier Park. we stopped to rest at the
Lake McDonald Lodge and to see the considerable fire
damage across the lake. We could still see plumes of
smoke all across the mountainside. The park had been
closed for weeks as the firs raged out of control.
The Forest Service, in front of the hotel, stationed a
park ranger with a large map of the park locating all
the fires. She also answered questions and spoke of the
vital role fires play in keeping the ecosystem healthy.
There were only a few visitors listening to her as we
walked by. Suddenly, she shouted, "Is that Moritz?"
I stopped and replied, "Yes, how do you know Moritz?"
"I read Nose to Nose. I would love to meet him." We all
laughed and sat down to get acquainted and have photos
taken with Moritz.
Traveling with Moritz is like traveling with Elvis.
